Notes for my Second Half
May. 30th, 2011 10:40 pmI'm 36 today. Give or take, that's roughly half my life. I was driving on the way home from the food store when I had a sudden urge to write.
Sadly, another one of those dreaded lists is all that came out.
Here are my notes to (hopefully) heed for the next part of my life:
1. Just because someone lays down a fight it does not mean you have to pick it up. Sometimes walking away is the best option.
2. Cats don't like to paint.
3. Help is not a four letter word. Well it is, just not a BAD four letter word.
4. The only patient you can help is the one right in front of you at the moment. If you concentrate just on helping that one person everything else will work itself out.
5. You cannot control how anyone else drives, feels or thinks.
6. The only person truly invested in your health is you. Doctors DON'T know everything even when they believe they do. They also never read charts. Ever.
7. When visiting a sick relative in the hospital always bring the nurses cookies or some other yummy thing. They're the ones that REALLY matter in an emergency.
8. You can only do so much. Delegating is not a bad thing.
9. Always make time for a cat who wants to cuddle.
10a Always have a spotter for stupid stuff
10b Stupid stuff does not necessarily mean physical things. Sometimes an emotional spotter is just as important.
11. Sometimes you just need to run away. Preferably to a National Park...the harder to get to the better.
12. Once I've made up my mind only God Himself can talk me out of it.
13. Always make time for tea.
14. Inspiration always hits at the most inconvenient times. Carry around a notepad and pen everywhere.
15. No matter what goals I set for myself, I will always set the bar higher once I reach them.
